Kentucky Medical Marijuana Dispensary Locations: Complete Guide 2025
Kentucky's medical marijuana program, established through Senate Bill 47, represents a significant milestone in the state's healthcare landscape. As of July 16, 2025, no medical cannabis dispensaries are open, but the state is actively working toward launching its comprehensive medical cannabis program with the first dispensary approved in Beaver Dam in Ohio County, expected to open sometime this fall.
Kentucky Dispensary Licensing Structure
The Kentucky medical cannabis program is designed with a well-organized regional approach to ensure equitable access across the Commonwealth. Forty-eight dispensary licenses were available and received the bulk of business applications, with four locations in each of the 11 licensing regions.
Regional Distribution System
No county can have more than one dispensary except for Louisville and Lexington, which are both allowed two. This strategic distribution ensures that patients throughout Kentucky will have reasonable access to medical marijuana without oversaturation in any particular area.
The 11 Medical Marijuana Regions in Kentucky
Kentucky's medical cannabis dispensary network is organized into 11 distinct regions, each designed to serve specific counties and patient populations:
Region 1: Bluegrass Region
Anderson, Bourbon, Boyle, Clark, Fayette, Franklin, Garrard, Harrison, Jessamine, Madison, Mercer, Scott, and Woodford counties
This region encompasses Kentucky's heartland, including Lexington, the state's second-largest city. The Bluegrass Region is expected to see high patient demand due to its population density and urban centers.
Region 10: Northern Kentucky
Boone, Bracken, Campbell, Carroll, Gallatin, Grant, Kenton, Owen, and Pendleton counties
The Northern Kentucky region serves the Cincinnati metropolitan area and represents one of the most populous regions in the state's medical cannabis program.
