Ved gudstjenesten i går skulle jeg læse et stykke om Kong Akab. Det inspirerede mig til at genlæse Herman Melvilles roman om den bindegale kaptajn Akab som vil dræbe den hvide hval, der, som Melville i sit forord er meget tydelig omkring, symboliserer livet som sådan i sin helhed. Ordet "Hval" forklarer han er etymologisk beslægtet med "hvælving" ... Himmel hvælving. Men den det fører krig mod det himmelske er ikke alene dømt til at tabe men river alt sit jordiske med sig i dyb og undergang. Og pludselig virkede Akab-figuren som en prototype på den nye kaptajn ved det store ror i USA.
Det kommer ikke til at gå godt.
