From the Danish Embassy in the US
Embassy staff arrived to find a “We ❤️ Denmark” sign placed in front of the gate, here in Washington, D.C. Most of us couldn’t help but stop, smile and take a picture.
It was one of those small, unexpected gestures that instantly lifts your mood.
And science backs it up: research shows that simple acts of kindness - like a sign, a smile, or a thoughtful message can boost happiness by strengthening social bonds and creating a sense of community.
Last week’s World Happiness Report is a timely reminder. Once again, Denmark and Finland top the list of the world’s happiest countries. A key reason? A strong culture of trust, connection, and care for one another - often expressed in everyday moments like this.
To whoever left the sign: thank you. You made our morning.
And you reminded us that happiness often begins with the smallest gestures.
