Spider
I spied a wee spider, a spider I spied,
And the spider I spied spied me.
In a voice soft and mellow
I said "My dear fellow
You're welcome to stay here for free
My home, it is humble, but if you would care
To make it your own I will willingly share"
He understood well,
I could easily tell
For by the break of the very next day
He had worked through the night,
And, to my great delight,
A wonderful web did display.
The mozzies and midges and buzzy old flies
That used to torment and bring tears to my eyes
My dutiful sentinel eight legged friend
Lured them each every one to their end
And my spider grew fat
In his web where he sat
And I know there are some who would kill him on sight
Or catch him and throw him out into the night
But as long as he stays here I'll help him survive
And I hope he will prosper and thrive.
